Target Power Output

The 16v engine is easily capable of 500bhp with the correctly built and specified set-up. Of course it all depends on how deep your pockets are, and/or how reliable you want it to be. There are a huge variety of routes you can take, from using a stock ABF 16v with stacked head gaskets, a second hand turbo and cut down S2 exhaust manifold running remapped Digifant management, to a fully blueprinted lightened low compression block, CNC cylinder head with titanium valve train, tubular equal length manifold, short runner intake, a Garrett 'BLOWZILLA' turbo and Motec management. Of course these two set-ups will be worlds apart, but the prices range from £500 to £15,000+!

Some typical set-ups

  • Stock 1.8 KR Block, stacked gaskets, G60 Digifant management, Garrett T25 - 220bhp
  • Stock 2.0 ABF Block, stacked gaskets, stock management, Garrett T28 - 250bhp
  • Stock 2.0 9A Block, spacer (8.5:1), Megasquirt management, Cosworth Garrett T3 - 280bhp
